Fax cost guide

How much does it cost to fax? Start with how often you send.

There is no single market price. Retail stores often price by page and destination, subscriptions price by month and allowance, and one-time services price by transmission.

Practical steps

Estimate the cost that applies to you

01

Count separate transmissions

Ten pages to one number is one fax. The same ten pages to three numbers is three faxes and may be priced differently.

02

Count final pages

Include cover pages and attachments. Retail per-page pricing and monthly allowances can make page count especially important.

03

Classify the destination

Local, domestic long-distance, toll-free, and international destinations may have different rates or support. Just One Fax is U.S.-only.

04

Include time and renewal cost

A store trip, printing, a monthly plan you forget to cancel, or maintaining a phone line can cost more than the fax charge itself.

The cheapest method changes with frequency

For one digital document, a fixed one-time service is easy to evaluate. For daily sending, a subscription with an appropriate page allowance can have a lower average cost. For paper-only needs, a nearby store may save the work of scanning.

Do not compare an introductory monthly price with a one-time price unless you also include renewal, page overage, inbound usage, and cancellation. Likewise, a store’s first-page rate may not represent a long document’s total.

  • Occasional digital sender: compare fixed one-time options
  • Frequent sender: model total monthly pages and recipients
  • Paper-only sender: include scanning, printing, travel, and waiting

Retail fax pricing is local

FedEx Office says its fax prices vary by store and advises contacting the location. The UPS Store advertises faxing but does not publish one universal price on its national service page. Staples advertises faxing at in-store self-service machines, while local availability and current machine pricing should be checked directly.

Published blog posts and crowd-sourced answers can become stale. Use official service pages to confirm that faxing is offered, then call or inspect the machine for current location-specific prices.

Owning a fax machine has fixed costs

A physical machine may require hardware, a compatible telephone service, paper, toner or ink, maintenance, and a secure place for incoming output. Multifunction printers can include fax hardware, but that does not mean your current phone setup supports it.

Ownership can still make sense for a stable office workflow or specialized requirements. For an individual who needs one outbound fax, buying and configuring hardware is rarely the simplest cost comparison.

Questions, answered

Details before you send.

How much does Just One Fax cost per page?

It is not priced per page. One fax costs $5 whether it has one page or up to 100 final pages.

How much does FedEx, UPS, or Staples charge to fax?

Current pricing can vary by location, number of pages, and destination. Check the official service page and ask your local store rather than relying on an old nationwide quote.

Is an online fax subscription cheaper?

It can be for frequent sending. Compare the full monthly fee and limits with the number of separate faxes you actually expect to send.

Why is a 100-page fax still $5?

Just One Fax uses a fixed transaction price for one U.S. destination up to the page limit rather than charging each page separately.
